Design-Tek, Inc. offers families of worm gearheads that match popular step motor and BLDC motor sizes. Worm gearheads (gearboxes) have ratios up to about 60:1. Worms can be a single start (typically 5:1 up to about 10:1 are “considered self-locking” (can act like a brake but vibration “can” sometimes move a load out of positon). Ratios higher than 10:1 up to about 60:1 (2, 3 or 4 start worms) have various center distances, torques, speed capabilities and efficiencies.
